Room 3 of 10
The progress he will not take
Two boards. Same player. On one he stops. On the other he races off the planet.
Physics
42.1km/s
Speed to leave the Sun’s well from Earth’s orbit.
Tried, but didn’t like doing crime. GTA5 required shooting police officers in the opening scene. Just couldn’t do it.
The only way I ever win is getting off the planet. Tech victory to Alpha Centauri. I never even start going down the culture or relations path. I just get off the planet as fast as I can. Aiming for the Alpha Centauri tech victory. It just seems like the right way to win. Rather than obliterate the other tribes.
Nikhil Kamath asks about morality. He answers with a game. In GTA V you cannot progress unless you kill the police. He stopped. He does not like killing NPCs. That is not his thing. The chapter sits inside a longer talk that also touches simulation, religion, and collective consciousness.
Hangs on Unobserved goodness
How he wins Civilization: get off the planet. Tech victory to Alpha Centauri. He does not start down the culture or relations path. He races the tree off-world rather than obliterate the other tribes. The nearest other sun is the win condition.
Hangs on Tech victory
GTA V’s prologue will not let you leave the bank without shooting police. In 2023 he said he tried, and could not. In 2025, to Nikhil Kamath, he said it again: you literally cannot progress unless you kill the police, and he does not like killing NPCs. Progress that forces a moral break is not progress he will take, even when no one is scoring him.
Civilization offers a different win. Tech victory launches toward Alpha Centauri. Domination erases the other tribes. He has said the only way he ever wins is getting off the planet. He does not start down the culture or relations path. It seems like the right way to win.
The Book of 42 holds both boards beside the nearest sun. Toliman names α Centauri B in older lists. The system is the civilizational neighbor, about 4.37 light-years out. From here, the Sun’s well asks 42.1 km/s.
- Tech victoryTwo boards, one ethic. Refuse the forced prologue. Race the tree off-world. Do not make conquest the only story of winning.
- Unobserved goodnessA civic tech with a public receipt. If this is a sim, or if it is not, the move that still matters is the one no one scores.
- MultiplanetaryThe next civic tech, if the tree is real: life on more than one world. Backup, not a metaphor.
