How this tree was built
Corpus first. Ciphers second.
The semantic tree was built independently, from the strongest documented relationships, the missing branches, and the bridge concepts. Only after the corpus was fixed did anyone run the ciphers.
That order is the whole ethic. A letter-sum can be recomputed in a second. A relationship between Civilization’s tech tree and a 2015 Reddit sentence cannot. If the numbers are allowed to pick the joints, the tree becomes a poster.
So the map you can walk was written as if the overlay did not exist. Each node has a trunk it hangs on, a source you can open, and a sentence that says what it is not. Edges are typed: prerequisite, analogy, bridge, identity. Analogies are not smuggled in as prerequisites.
When a branch is quiet until another is researched, that is not a game lock. It is the 2015 sentence made walkable. Trunk and big branches first, or there is nothing for a leaf to hang on. Sid Meier already taught the same grammar: Writing before Literature. Elon named it a semantic tree.
What “documented” means here
- Primary speech. Reddit AMA, Code Conference, public posts, the 2023 GTA refusal, the 2025 Lara Trump legacy sentence, Nikhil Kamath, Moonshots. Quoted with a handle and a year. Bibliography in Turabian.
- Formal neighbors. Bostrom 2003, Landauer 1961, Chalmers 1995, Wheeler 1989. Present so a popular argument has somewhere to hang.
- Sister worlds. Are We in a Simulation? walks the Pong grammar as an experience. This tree hangs the same argument with sources.
- Play, labeled. English gematria, named faces. Hits and misses both kept. The overlay cannot rewrite a node’s prose.
The cipher method
Across the Book of 42, ciphers are a looking instrument, not a second trunk. Words become numbers on named faces. The faces are not collapsed into one score. Reverse reduction is not ordinal. Full reduction is not reverse reduction.
Four English faces are used here, the same family as Cipher and The 42 Index:
- English Ordinal. A=1 through Z=26, summed.
- Reverse Ordinal. A=26 through Z=1.
- Full Reduction. Pythagorean 1 through 9, cycling.
- Reverse Reduction. Reverse ordinal, then reduced. TECH TREE prints 42 on this face. That is arithmetic. It is not destiny.
Named seals (24, 42, 69, 111, 420) are called when a sum lands on them. A hit is kept. A miss is kept. Look first. Count second.
A trunk you can check. A flaw you can name. A game treated as a compressed model, not as scripture. Consciousness left hard. The 2016 question kept: tell me what’s wrong with that argument.
